Florence to Orvieto

Today is our day to start our visit with Jim and Anne in Orvieto.

Our train didn’t leave until noon, so we had a leisurely morning. The most stress we had was getting Linda suitcase closed!

The weather is starting to turn – rain for the next couple of days then temps in mid 70s. We are looking for some R & R … maybe, sleep in a bit, see a few sites, drink wine, take walks that aren’t 20 thousand steps! Most of all we want to experience their new lifestyle. They have been here for 7 months already.

The landscape quickly went from flat and arid looking to green and rolling hills.

As we exited the train at the station in Orvieto we quickly saw Jim and Anne in the platform. After exchanging hugs, we started our walk to their home. The first experience was to ride the funicular from the station to the city. We then took a bus to the cathedral and walked to their home.

It is a lovely apartment with a nice living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and two baths.

We took a short walk around Orvieto and found ourselves sitting behind some very nice wine.

Afternoon wine tasting

Jim and Anne prepared a wonderful meat and cheese platter for our dinner.  There is a lovely courtyard that is used by the family that owns the building.  We were fortunate enough to have the meal in the courtyard.  The food was fantastic and the setting very calming.

After we ate, we decided we had to walk of the meal.  It was very nice to see Orvieto by night., especially the lit up cathedral.

I’m sure this will come as a surprise, but we found gelato along the way. After that we finished our walk back to the apartment and decided it was time to head to bed. One last picture of the view from our bedroom
